Round 2 saw the unders playing Old Mentonians in perfect conditions at Harry Trott.

Collegians 12.19

Old Mentonians 12.12

From the start it was clear the game would be tight but Collegians, with Jack Parsons dominating on the ball, was able to hold sway by a few points at quarter time 2-3 to 1-5, mainly due to some inaccuracy from Old Mentonians.

The second quarter saw a reversal with Collegians losing some accuracy & kicking 3-6 to Old Mentonians 5-1 as the opposition stated to gain ascendency across their half forward line and took a 3 point lead into the main break.

With the appropriate moves having been made, Collegians again took control during the 3rd quarter but inaccuracy as we kicked 3-6 to Old Mentonians 3-2 cost us a safe lead. At three quarter time our lead was just 1 point.

During the final quarter the lead see-sawed as one team goaled in response to the other. Two late goals by Collegians (a long fortuitous bounce for Hugh Apted and a good rover's goal from Sam Cutts) sealed the day and we run out victors by 7 just points 12-19 to 12-12, which was a good reflection of the day's play.

Best for Collegians were Hugh Apted who was clearly best on ground supported by a great captain's game from James Martyn, with good support from Nick Corp, Jack Parsons, Sam Cutts, Mitch Jager and Luke Challman's hard work in and amongst it.

Collegians v Beaumaris Round 1

Beaumaris 16.15

Collegians 13.12

McDonald Reserve at Black Rock hosted a good standard and closely fought tussle between Beauie and Collegians. Beaumaris held sway all day but not by much as the momentum shifted constantly between the teams with Collegians getting with 8 points during the last quarter, before Beaumaris rallied to seal the game with a couple of late goals..

Both teams presented well and look likely to be in the mix for the coming year.

Best for Collegian were Nick Corp who dominated when on the ball, Sam Cutts amongst it all day in the midfield High Apted and Jack Parsons combined well at the stoppages & around the ground, Josh Kamener sowed some dash & James Martin was solid particularly in defence.

Goal Kickers: Apted 3 Cutts 2 Corp 2 Bird Denison Jager Parsons Kamener Santi
