Premier 3rds Vs Old Scotch (R14)

Collegians needed to keep on winning to keep their finals hope alive. Collegians however got off to a very slow start and Old Scotch dominated the first quarter. Old Scotch wanted the ball more, ran harder and moved the ball more quickly. Although Collegians began to break even by the end of the quarter, Old Scotch had a handy 2 goal lead. The real Collegians came out hard in the second quarter and began to dominate the quarter as Old Scotch had in the first. Baxter, Cross, Cookie, Netts and Ports were great in the guts whilst Maddern, MJ, Ashman, Simon and Fabris were good up front. In contrast to the first quarter, the defence lead by Shotty and Duff began to lock down their opposition. By half time, Collegians had turned the tide and led by 2 goals after an effective but not pretty 7 goal quarter.

The third quarter again proved to be an arm wrestle. Although the wind picked up to the advantage of Old Scotch, Collegians were able to kick accurately and extended their lead by three quarter time. The last 10 minutes of the third handed Collegians a disastrous run of injuries with MJ and Cookie finished for the day and Shotty, Duff and Porta all spending time on the bench with head injuries. Depleted with no bench to rotate, Collegians dug deep in the last quarter and with tremendous fighting spirit managed to hold on for a hard fought victory. We wish MJ, Cookie and big Netts a speedy recovery and hopefully a return for finals.

Collegians 13.7.85 defeated Old Scotch 11.13.79

Best – Baxter, Duff, Maddern, Cross, Vinny and Dunwill
