Preliminary Final - Division 1 - Club XVIII Collegians V Old Xavs
Although the Clubbies had beaten Xavs during the year, this game was always
going to be a tough encounter. It was made much tougher by the bad weather
and poor ground conditions. The first half was a dour struggle characterised
by old fashioned football - win the ball, don't overuse it and move it long
to the forward line. Both sides shared momentum and it was 1.3.9 to 1.2.8 at
half time. The game opened up in the third quarter and Xavs were able to
score 3 goals thanks to some hard running, finding space and good ball use.
The Clubbies needed to kick 3 goals in the final quarter to make the GF next
week but alas only 1 goal was forthcoming. It was a disappointing end to the
season however it was a good initiation into Division 1 which will stand us
in good stead in 2009.
